Pedro Almodóvar Film Analysis

This paper requires the use of assigned readings and lecture notes. Please make an offer if you are willing to read them & use them in the paper. I am attaching a couple of lecture notes for you to have an idea for now.
You are required to write a short essay (six to eight pages in length, doubled-spaced, using a 12 point font) on one film made by Pedro Almodóvar NOT screened in this class. Try not to exceed the suggested page length for this assignment.
You can write about either:
What Have I Done to Deserve This (1984)- on reserve at the AVRC (460 St. Patrick’s Building)
Talk to Her (2002)- on reserve at the AVRC (460 St. Patrick’s Building)
Broken Embraces (2009)
The Skin I Live In (2011)
Julieta (2016)
If you would like to write about a film not listed here, please see me about this.
The objective of this assignment is for you to write a classic ‘authorship’ essay, demonstrating that you have learned how to apply this method of analysis to a film not studied in class.
It is your task in this paper to determine if your chosen film fits all of the elements of a typical ‘Pedro Almodóvar film’, as discussed in class and in the readings or if your chosen film stages significant departures from his signature style and themes (i.e. your thesis statement for this paper must seek to answer this particular question, as it relates to your chosen film). As such, you are required to make reference to a number of his films screened during the class throughout the paper, when appropriate. As
the page length for this assignment is quite short, choose your examples very carefully.
You will draw from all course materials (i.e. discussion, lectures, reading and
screening material) when writing this essay while also making reference to one
additional source not found in the syllabus. All of your sources should be of a scholarly
nature (i.e. articles, portions of books or book chapters).
Your grade will be based on:
-how well your essay adheres to all of the instructions outlined above
-how clearly you are able to ascertain whether or not your chosen film is a typical or atypical
Pedro Almodóvar film, on the basis of your analysis of key elements of film form and style
-on the quality of your argument (i.e. how clearly you are able to articulate your points)
-on grammar and writing style
